Last month, Ant Marketing Payroll and HR manager Nadia Remeikis celebrated her 40th birthday, and in January will be celebrating 18 years with the company!
We spoke to Nadia to find out how her time at Ant has been so far, and how she spent her birthday…
Happy 40th Birthday Nadia and congratulations on approaching 18 years with Ant Marketing! What is it about working at Ant that has kept you with the company so long?
I’ve joined the company at the age of 22. I was in my final year at the University of Sheffield and I needed a part time job. From the moment I joined the company I became a part of a big family. I’ve met so many incredible people along the way, and learned so much about different cultures – it’s definitely the people that I’ve worked with that kept me at Ant for this long.
Tell us about your role in the company and what your day to day work involves.
Every day is different and full of challenges – there is never a dull day in our office. I have a split role; I look after Payroll as well as HR. This involves providing staff training and development, arranging staff services such as welfare meetings and HR clinics, and dealing with any complaints and discipline procedures. I process monthly payroll for around 250 employees, as well as calculating annual leave entitlement, processing starters and leavers information and resolving all pay queries and correction of errors.
What skills are required to be a successful payroller?
To do my job, you have to love working with numbers and people. It is critical to have an eye for detail, as an employee’s salary depends on your calculations.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Payroll is an ever-changing role as there’s always something new to learn or new projects to get stuck in to. This is part of the reason why I enjoy my job and why I’ve stuck with it for so long.
What is the best thing about your job?
Having the ability and skill to assist employees and to keep them happy.
Who have been your closest friends while working at Ant?
Cecilia Rodriguez! Cecilia was one of our ops managers in the international department. Our friendship grew strong over the years and she became part of my family.
Did you have any special celebrations for your 40th birthday?
Yes, I did! I went on holiday to Florida with my family. I’ve started going through my bucket list and a trip to Florida is one of the things I’ll be able to cross off now.
What was your favourite present?
As you get older, one doesn’t put so much emphasis on the presents. The greatest gift of all is to have your loved ones by your side.
So, what’s next?
I’ve heard that life begins at 40 and I’m definitely looking forward to it. The late 20’s and 30’s are the most stressful. There are so many expectations placed upon you such as buying a house, raising a family etc. Now that’s accomplished, I can enjoy my 40’s.
Thanks for taking the time to speak to us Nadia, and a very Happy Birthday from everyone at Ant Marketing!
